What’s in season in September?
September – The first month of Spring! Casting away the cool of Winter and bringing in the slow rise of temperature. The earth awakens with new growth, new beginnings, buds blooming, seed planting, new animals, fresh crisp air, and a spring in the step.
In fruit, Strawberries are plentiful. These delicious berries of goodness are juicy bursts of sunshine!
Navel Oranges, full of Vitamin C, are helping our immune system as the season changes.
Paw Paw and Pineapple keep us feeling tropical this month. Helping our digestion with their good enzymes.
The melons show themselves this month, Rockmelon, Watermelon and Honeydew, giving us a medley of colour. Refreshing on a warm Spring day.
Still available are apples, pears, grapefruit, lemons and mandarins
In vegetables, Asparagus is top this month. This unique vegetable is delicious lightly steamed or grilled.
Leafy greens become more abundant this month – bok choy, pak choy, silverbeet, spinach and kale. These bunches of nutrient rich goodness keep you healthy inside and out.
Keeping green – beans, cabbage, broccoli, celery and zucchini are all available this month.
Something different for dinner? Spaghetti Squash is here. This unique vegetable is a great alternative to pasta. Cook it up, then scrape out the flesh which turns into strands. Voila, instant spaghetti! Add it to any sauce or dish. Delicious.
Still available in September are pumpkin, carrot, beetroot, brussel sprouts, cauliflower and globe
artichoke.
