What’s in season in May

May is the month of citrus!🍊🍋

The last Autumn month is here before the cool Winter season comes along. Navel oranges kick in with their sweetness while pushing for the front line is Mandarins.

Two varieties will begin the show – imperial and daisy. New-season apple variety, Sundowner, comes along to add to the apple mix. Sharwill avocado comes along to pair with the trusty Hass variety this month. Both full of delicious goodness!

Hayward variety of Kiwifruit starts this month with Strawberries from Qld really making themselves known. Persimmons hang in there too for a spell. Globe Artichokes and Jerusalem Artichokes are here this month, so unique from each other but both delicious. Roasted Jerusalem Artichokes, humm!

Brussels Sprouts increase in their availability this month. Liked or hated, they are a solid cooler weather vegetable. Stir-fried or roasted, they really are delicious. More brassica family members come on in May with abundance – Broccoli and Cauliflower. Cauliflower rice anyone? 😋

Parsnips begin to come on board this month with his friends Swedes and Turnips. The epitome of cool weather vegetables just there. Perfect for soups, stews and roasting. Rainbow Chard starts this month to join the other leafy greens available.

Shelling (Garden) Peas and Sugar Snap Peas available this month as well. What are your cooking plans for the month? 🍽️
