5 Vegetarian Barbecue Ideas
Make some room on the barbie for these 5 healthy, vegetarian recipes! It doesn’t need to be all about steaks and burgers. Plant-based diets are becoming more popular as people consider the health and environmental impact of what they put on their plate. Our ‘VBQ’ recipes will help inject some creativity with veggie BBQ options this summer. They’re so delicious and nutritious, that you’ll end up cooking them even if none of your veggie and vegan friends show up.
1. KEBABS
If you have the time to prepare them, kebabs well seasoned made with zucchini, onions, capsicum, tomatoes and yellow squash turn out delicious and impressively beautiful. If the barbecue is for a celebration, this is definitely worth the work.
2. MUSHROOMS
Choose large sized mushrooms to start with. Place them whole on the barbecue topped with some olive oil, salt and pepper and wait until the mushrooms are about two-thirds of the initial size. Serve them in slices and enjoy this vegetarian source of protein.
3. HALLOUMI
The easiest thing to prepare, just cut them in slices or diced and place them in the barbecue until roasted on both sides.
4. EGGPLANT
A great tip with eggplants is to cook them on the side of the barbecue, where the heat is not very intense. Before placing them in the barbecue, cut the eggplant in halves, open up some creases with a knife and top it with olive oil, oregano, salt, pepper and cheese. Cook until the meat inside the eggplant is soft as a mash. De-li-ci-ous!
5. BANANAS for dessert
All you have to do is put ripened bananas straight into the barbecue with the skin on.
